Terms of Service
Last updated: October 27, 2026
These terms are the agreement between Inventing Genius Labs LLC ("theway.host", "we", "us") and the church or organization that uses theway.host ("you"). We've tried to write them the way we'd explain them across a table. If anything here is unclear, please ask us.
The short version
- Build your site free for 14 days. No card needed, and nothing is charged unless you choose a plan.
- Your content and your church's data belong to you. You can export them at any time.
- Yearly plans: full refund if you cancel within 30 days. We email you 30 days before any yearly renewal.
- If a payment fails, you get 14 days to fix it before anything changes.
- Texting and AI run only on prepaid credit with daily limits. They can never put your church in debt.
1. Using theway.host
- You must be at least 18 and allowed to act for your church to create an account or choose a plan.
- Keep your sign-in details private. You're responsible for what happens under your account and for the staff and volunteers you give access to. Give each person their own login.
- Tell us right away if you think your account has been misused. We'll help.
2. The 14-day build trial
You can build your site for 14 days without a card. During the trial your site stays private, and going live needs a paid plan. We'll remind you a few days before the trial ends. If you don't choose a plan, nothing is charged, and we keep your draft for 60 days after the trial ends so you can come back to it. After that it's deleted.
3. Plans, billing and renewal
- Plans are billed monthly or yearly, in advance, in US dollars, at the price shown when you choose the plan. Taxes may be added where the law requires. Current prices are on our pricing page.
- Each plan includes one campus. Extra campuses are an add-on (currently $29 a month each).
- Plans renew automatically until cancelled. For yearly plans we email the account owner 30 days before the renewal, so it's never a surprise.
- Founding-church pricing (half off the first year of a yearly plan, for our first churches) applies to the first year only. After that the plan renews at the standard yearly price unless you change or cancel it.
- If we raise prices, we give at least 30 days' notice by email, and the new price starts at your next renewal.
- Failed payments: we let you know and give you a 14-day grace period to fix it. Your site stays live during that time. If it's still unpaid afterwards, your public site rests (visitors see a simple "back soon" page) until payment is sorted out. Your data is never deleted because of a late payment and stays available to export.
- Card payments are handled by Stripe. While online card billing is being set up, we can get your church live by invoice instead.
4. Cancelling and refunds
You can cancel at any time by emailing us, or from your billing page once self-serve billing is switched on. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you've already paid for, and your site stays up until then. The full details are in our Refunds & cancellation policy. In short: yearly plans cancelled in the first 30 days get a full refund, monthly plans aren't refunded for part of a month, and setup fees are refunded in full if we haven't started the work.
5. Prepaid texting and AI credits
- Text messages and AI drafting are optional. They only run on credit you've paid for in advance. They are not a loan, a line of credit, or a bill that arrives later.
- When the credit runs out, sending stops. We never send on credit and never charge you afterwards for usage.
- Each church has a daily spending limit (by default $25 a day for texts and $5 a day for AI), which your church can lower. Anything that would pass the limit isn't sent, and nothing is charged for it.
- Texts cost a fixed price per message segment, shown before you buy credit (currently 5 cents). AI drafts cost what the AI provider charges, with a small amount held while the draft runs and the rest returned.
- Credits aren't money. They can't be withdrawn, moved to another church, or earn interest. Unused credit doesn't expire while your account is open. If we stop offering the service, or close your account through no fault of yours, we refund unused credit.
6. Your content and data
- You own your content and your church's data: your website, people records, groups, events, check-in and giving records. You let us host, store, back up and display it only so we can run theway.host for you.
- You can export your data at any time. If you leave, it stays available to export for 60 days, then we delete it as described in our Privacy Policy.
- Only upload photos and text you have the right to use. When you upload a photo, we save a fresh copy that leaves out hidden details such as the location where it was taken, and we shrink very large photos.
- You're responsible for having permission to keep the people records you enter, including a parent's or guardian's permission for children's records. Our data processing summary explains who is responsible for what.
7. Acceptable use
Please use theway.host in ways that are lawful and kind. Don't send spam, harass anyone, publish content that infringes someone else's rights, collect money under false pretences, try to reach another church's data, or disrupt the service. Our Acceptable use policy has the details. If an account breaks these rules we may pause it. Except in urgent cases (for example a security risk or illegal content), we contact you first.
8. AI tools
AI drafts are a starting point, not finished work. They can be wrong. Read and edit every draft before you use it, and please don't paste sensitive pastoral details into an AI request. AI is off unless your church turns it on and buys credit.
9. Giving and payments
Gifts and payments are handled by payment companies such as Stripe, and their terms also apply. Each church receives and is responsible for its own gifts. Our Giving policy explains fees, receipts and refunds for gifts.
10. Availability, support and backups
We work hard to keep theway.host running, secure and backed up, but we can't promise it will never be interrupted. When we can, we announce planned maintenance in advance. Written uptime commitments are offered only on Custom plans.
11. Our software and templates
The theway.host software, designs and brand belong to Inventing Genius Labs LLC. You may use our templates for your theway.host site. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them to improve theway.host, with no obligation to you.
12. Ending the agreement
You can stop using theway.host at any time. We may end or pause an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or if the law requires it. If we ever decide to shut down theway.host itself, we'll give at least 60 days' notice, help you export everything, and refund any prepaid time and credit you haven't used.
13. Disclaimers and limits
Except for the promises in these terms, theway.host is provided "as is". As far as the law allows, we aren't responsible for indirect or consequential losses (such as lost donations or lost data you didn't export), and our total responsibility for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits responsibility that can't be limited by law.
If someone makes a legal claim against us because of content you published or a law you broke while using theway.host, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it.
14. Changes to these terms
If we make a meaningful change, we email account owners at least 14 days before it takes effect and update the date at the top of this page. If you don't agree, you can cancel before the change starts (and the refund rules above still apply).
15. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oklahoma, USA. If something goes wrong, please write to us first. Most problems can be solved with a conversation, and we'll try in good faith for at least 30 days before either side goes to court.
